Mid-air collision averted between two IndiGo aircraft in Bengaluru
Two IndiGo aircraft with 330 passengers on board on
Tuesday averted a massive mid-air collision in Bengaluru after an automatically
generated warning alerted the pilots of the planes, prompting authorities to
launch a probe into the incident.
“The TCAS-Resolution Advisory system was triggered on two
of our aircraft operating Coimbatore-Hyderabad and Bangalore-Cochin routes
respectively on July 10. Following normal procedure this has been reported to
the regulator,” the airlines said in a statement.
It was referring to the directorate general of civil
aviation (DGCA).
The traffic collision avoidance system scans the airspace
around a plane for other aircraft equipped with corresponding active
transponders and gives pilots warning of possible collision risks.
It also imparts information about the avoidance action
(resolution advisory) to maintain the desired separation between two aircraft.
